N.E.A.T.

NeatNEAT is a university organization that provides opportunities for candidates in the College of Education to serve the university as well as the community. Additionally, the candidates obtain leadership experience as well as personal and professional growth.

* Membership is open to all students in the College of Education. This includes all Teacher Education candidates, Dyslexia participants, FACS, and Psychology candidates.

* NEAT dues are $10 per year.

* NEAT meetings are held at various times throughout the semester (notification by facebook or email –in certain circumstances). Group Facebook Page: Neat at Nicholls State.

* NEAT participates in a variety of campus events and numerous community activities throughout the academic year.

* Members are required to participate in two (2) events per semester (4 events per academic year) and attend a minimum of 1 meeting (2 meetings per academic year) for the duration of two years (prior & active until graduation) in order to be considered an active NEAT member.

* Members will receive a “Certificate of Participation”, “Graduation Cords”, and (possible) service hours for his/her participation in the NEAT organization if the above-mentioned criteria are met.

NEAT – HONORS

NEAT Honors
As an active member of NEAT, if you meet the following criteria, you would qualify to graduate with not only a blue service cord, but a gold honor cord as well.

Undergraduate Students

  • be an active member of N.E.A.T
  • receive an invitation to membership
  • be majoring in any program in the college of education (Teacher Ed, Psychology, & FACS)
  • at least 30 semester hours have been completed (Sophomore status) with at least 12 semester hours in specific concentration area.
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

 

Graduate Students

  • be an active member of N.E.A.T
  • receive an invitation to membership
  • be enrolled in a Master’s program offered by the College of Education
  • have graduate standing and have the intent to continue academically and professionally in the field of education, psychology or FACS.
  • demonstrate leadership attributes
  • have completed at least 6 credit hours of graduate coursework.
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of 4.0 for all graduate coursework completed

  • Graduation Honors Cords: If you are an active member of NEAT and have met the requirements (including GPA), you can receive your gold honor cord with a cord fee of $10. This fee is in addition to your NEAT membership fee of $10 (total $20 fee). In addition, you will receive an honors certificate to utilize you’re your future resume, vitae, or professional portfolio.
  • For graduate candidates only: The required meeting (each semester) will be excused for purposes of full time teaching responsibilities. However, both events must be completed in order to obtain NEAT cord, honor cord, and honors certificate.

 

**Exceptions: Graduating seniors (Dec 2014) and those graduating in (May, 2015) may still join NEAT and be considered for NEAT Honors in obtaining cords; however, you will need to double your event participation and complete the same requirements in the allotted time period.
