Art Education
Teaching art means more than sending students home with a drawing to tape to their refrigerator. Art educators have the opportunity to awaken the creative side of their students and motivate them to take note of the beauty surrounding them — from a local church’s architecture to the antique photograph hanging in their home.
The Nicholls art education program prepares prospective teachers to share their artistic ability and knowledge with elementary and secondary school students.
Education courses focus on instructional methods and materials as well as the artistic level common at each developmental stage. Majors write and teach lesson plans and observe art classes in cooperating schools. The curriculum also integrates courses from the Nicholls Division of Art. Students are required to enroll in drawing, sculpture, design, printmaking, photography, painting and art history courses.
