Mathematics Education

Polynomials, differential equations, derivatives, logarithmic functions — words that tend to cause math anxiety in many high school students.
The Nicholls mathematics education program trains prospective teachers to use instructional methods that make learning math easier. Education courses, which require field experiences in local math classes, emphasize strategies and techniques for planning, organizing and implementing effective math lessons.
Mathematics courses, offered through the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, provide majors with advanced knowledge in geometry, statistics, calculus, linear algebra and differential equations.
Mathematics education students are required to have a secondary focus. As listed on the curriculum guide, students must complete course requirements for their secondary focus certification.
