Professional Educators as Reflective Decision-Makers

Dr. Arrianna Smith-Martin

Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Education

Dr. Arrianna Martin likes to pack her health and physical education courses with as much action as possible.

As a former fitness center assistant director and Delgado Community College head women’s basketball coach, Martin combines experience and passion in her lessons.

“I enjoy what I do but I am also serious about what I do,” Martin says. “I get extremely involved with certain classes because of my passion for the topic. I challenge students to place themselves into the positions of what we are discussing, whether it’s sports psychology, coaching or just an introduction to health and physical education.”

Martin joined the Nicholls faculty in Fall 2005 and serves on several campus committees. Interacting with students is her favorite part of the job.

In her spare time, Martin serves as a “taxi cab driver” for her two daughters. She also enjoys reading and working out.
