Dr. Tim Mead
Professor of Human Performance Education
In six hours, the average person can take a road trip from Jackson, Miss., to Nashville, Tenn. The journey took Dr. Tim Mead five days.
While he didn’t save on time, Mead definitely saved on gasoline, just one of the benefits of bicycling a 400-mile route.
Mead, Professor of Human Performance Education, is a strong advocate for healthy living. Mead, who was a New York high school tennis champion, has completed more than 50 triathlons and also enjoys rowing, kayaking, golfing and weight lifting. In 2005, he completed the Ironman triathlon, which included a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26-mile run in 95-degree weather.
“I participated in numerous team sports as a child and try to be an active, healthy and fit role model to my students,” Mead said. “All my classes involve hands-on learning experiences where students apply what is learned in the classroom.”
Before coming to Nicholls in 1995, Mead taught at the University of Toledo and Ohio State University. He has also worked as an assistant tennis professional and high school tennis coach in Ohio as well as a high school softball coach in New York.
Mead enjoys working with personable faculty members at Nicholls who are willing to help students, as well as his morning bicycle ride to work.
