I. Naming of facilities on campus

Dr .Boudreaux presented a draft of the “Nicholls State University Policy on Naming Facilities, Spaces, Units, and Properties and Other Endowed Gifts” for review by Cabinet members.  Discussion will take place at the next Cabinet meeting in April.

II. Emergency Management Planning and Hurricane Season 2009—Preparations

            Brian Clausen presented

Pre-Position team has been identified and is in place for the upcoming Hurricane Season

Safety Office will be asking all campus departments to submit updated evacuation plans for employees –Send completed plans to Department Head or Brian Clausen

Emergency Preparedness Forum:

Took place Monday 3/30/09 to develop strategies on how Nicholls State University can better interact with surrounding/outside agencies during a storm event.

II. Cost Reduction Initiative

System wide committee, Mike Davis and Terry Dupre represent Nicholls State University on this committee.  Purpose is to identify cost reduction possibilities on all campuses.  Discussion included:

            Energy Costs—possibly bidding out energy purchasing

Telecommunications –possibility of using alternative long distance providers

Student Insurance plans – pooling all University student health insurance plans under one company –tried previously but no companies placed a bid.

IV. Budget Reduction

Proposing Nicholls State University to try a pilot program of a 4.5 workday workweek for summer of 2009 – currently under discussion.

Without Beauregard Hall not enough classroom space to consider a reduced workweek during fall/spring semesters.

Current Budget reduction numbers:

15.9% reduction in Statutory funding = $5,310,000.00

$1,238,000.00 reduction in unfunded mandated monies (employee benefits)

5% tuition increase proposed for 09-10 academic year

President mentions that his focus is in maintaining the Academic Core of the University.

First budget reduction worksheet due to System President 4/3/09, with second due 4/13/09.

President will make this information available to campus community as soon as possible.
