Tips for New Students

cancienne-amber.jpgAs a new student, please remember to:

  • Make sure you know the dates for important activities such as the last date to pay fees,  dropping and/or adding classes, financial aid matters, etc. View the Nicholls academic calendar for more details.
  • Double check your enrollment in classes. Check Banner for changes in meeting times, places, etc. Print a copy of your schedule.

Beginning Fall 2010:

  • You will be required to pay for the classes you register for.  If you decide not to attend Nicholls for the fall, you MUST drop classes by 4:15 on the last business day before the first day of class or you will be required to pay for the classes you have registered.

  • Students will no longer be required to “ACTIVATE.”
  • There will be NO FLUSH.
  • All tuition and fees must be paid by 4:15 pm on the last business day before the first day of class.

  • Students will be responsible for any tuition and fees for courses that remain on their schedule after this deadline.  You will still be allowed to make changes to your schedule up until 4:15 pm.  At 4:15 PM, your schedule will be locked in, and you will be responsible for paying for those classes. Any changes to your schedule after this time will require your Dean’s approval and changes must be made in the Office of Records and Registration.
  • Late Payment Fee
    • $100 late charge will be assessed after the last business day before the first day of class.
    • An additional $25 per month fee will be assessed after the first of each month in addition to any other late fee.
    • This will be added to charges even to those students that are not attending Nicholls in the fall.
  • Late Registration Fee
    • $100 processing charge will be added to your fee bill for late registration beginning after 4:15 pm on the last business day before the first day of class.
    • Classes that are added during late registration must be approved by the Dean of your college and by the instructor.
  • Dropping and Adding Classes
    • No refund will be given for a dropped class after 4:15 pm on the last business day before the first day of class.  Adding classes after this date may increase indebtedness.
  • If you still need to take any placement tests, be sure to contact the Academic Testing Center in 212 Elkins Hall or call 985.493.2599 or 985.448.4462 to schedule.
  • Make plans to attend to attend a Freshman Advising Seminar. Freshman Advising Seminars are offered to first-time, entering freshmen to help them in the transition to college.  These seminars are designed to pick up where orientation left off and give students valuable information covering a broad range of topics that are relevant to them as they prepare for their first semester at Nicholls. Please call 985.448.4117 to sign up for a Freshman Advising Seminar.
  • Take care of business. If you have any financial aid, make sure all of your paperwork is completed and delivered to the Financial Aid Office by the deadline date.
