Director of Upward Bound and Assistant Professor of University Studies

An attentive ear is comforting, especially to a homesick or confused high school student or college freshman. Dr. Angela Alexander calls on her background in counseling to talk with students about issues they’re experiencing or just chat. But once inside her office, students realize that she’s not just doing her job; Alexander genuinely wants to learn more about those she serves.

“The greatest strength of Upward Bound and University Studies is that the entire staff is sincerely concerned about students,” she says. “We’re willing to work with students and are available to visit with the students we serve.”

Alexander arrived at Nicholls in 1980 as a counselor in Student Support Services. In 1990, she joined the Freshman Division as an instructor and became the assistant director of the Tutorial Learning Center. She continues to teach in University College as an assistant professor and now serves as the director of Upward Bound, a program funded by a federal TRIO grant.

In her spare time, Alexander enjoys being at home with her family, having family outings and going to the movies.
