Dr. Eugene A. Dial Jr. has been a part of the Nicholls family since 1986. He has served in several administrative and faculty positions, including his current post as vice president for student affairs.

Dial came to Nicholls State University from Florida State University where he completed a doctor of philosophy degree in higher education in 1987. He earned bachelor’s (1979) and master’s (1980) degrees from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana.

He began his career at Nicholls in 1986 as director of residential services and added teaching to his administrative duties two years later, joining the Nicholls faculty as an instructor. Since that time he has risen through the ranks to become an associate professor of education and a member of the graduate faculty. Since Dial began his tenure at Nicholls, he served 11 years as dean of student life and the last five years as assistant vice president.

Dial is an active member of the community. He has served on the board of directors of the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross, having served as board secretary. He is a two-time past president of the Thibodaux Kiwanis Club, currently serves as vice president of membership for PRO-NSU and has served on the board of directors of the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce. Dial has also served three terms as president of the Bayou Industrial Group and is an active member of the Nicholls State University Alumni Federation. He has been actively involved in youth recreational sports programs in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes and in the development of an animal control program for Lafourche Parish, currently serving as chair of the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter advisory board.

Throughout his career, he has presented numerous papers and research and garnered many awards. He was named the Nicholls Division of Student Affairs Employee of the Year in 1994 and Kiwanian of the Year by the Thibodaux Kiwanis Club in 1994 and 1997. In 2000, he was awarded the Honorary Alumnus Award by the Nicholls Alumni Federation and the Bayou Industrial Group Outstanding Achievement Award. In 2004, Dial was honored by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette College of Education with the Outstanding Alumnus Award for the Class of 1979.

Dial is married to Brenda Haskins Dial and they are the parents of three children: Chad, Brittany and Terry.
