Jill R. Chancey, a New Orleans native, studies American art, with a special emphasis on Abstract Expressionism. Her research interests include Elaine de Kooning, art of the American South, Native American basketry, gender studies, museum ethics, and photography.

Chancey joined the Nicholls faculty in 2013 after more than a decade in the museum business and a number of years as adjunct and visiting faculty at universities in Louisiana, Kansas, and Mississippi. At Nicholls, she teaches Modern, Contemporary, and American art. Outside of school, she can usually be found wrangling cats, watching kung fu movies, or listening to live music.
