Starting 30 days before the first day of classes, you will receive an order verification link to your Nicholls State University email to verify your order and select your delivery preference. Options are in-store pickup, shipping directly to you, or digital materials available on Moodle.

Receive your books

An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Moodle.

Payment

The Colonel Book Bundle program fee will be added to the charges shown on your Nicholls State University student Banner account. Just like other charges, it can be paid by financial aid, financial payment plans, or be paid for out of pocket. Supplies are not included in this program and will need to be purchased separately.

Accessible format

Accessible format textbooks are available for students with disabilities. Eligibility and requests are handled by The Department of Testing and Disability Services (TDS).

Course changes

If you change courses, revisit the email link to verify changes and select your delivery method. Or, visit us in stores, bringing any course material no longer needed to exchange for new material.

Purchase your rental

The program provides you with the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate during the return period.

Returning

The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of finals. Students will receive email reminders about the rental deadline to their email address. Books can be returned to the Bookstore on Campus.

Continuation courses

You will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

Opt out

We encourage students to enjoy deeply discounted and guaranteed course material for the first day of class. We also understand this program may not meet the needs of every student. If you do not wish to participate in the Colonel Book Bundle program, you will need to opt-out every semester.

Summer Opt-Out:
Thursday, May 16 – Friday, May 31

Fall Opt-Out:
Thursday, August 1 – Thursday, August 22

Please be aware that once you opt-out for the semester you will be unable to opt-in again that semester.

Why is Nicholls partnering with Barnes and Noble?
Nicholls and Barnes and Noble are both focused on delivering affordable course materials options to our students. Colonel Book Bundle is a full-service course material program that delivers a highly personalized experience for students, retains faculty choice of course materials, and delivers deep savings to students. Barnes & Noble is also our contracted bookstore provider and thus we coordinate all things textbook related with them.

If I choose not to participate in the Colonel Book Bundle, how much time do I have to opt out of the program?
Students can opt out of the program starting 10 days before classes begin until the close of the registration period, which is the end of business day on the 4th class day in the Fall or Spring terms.

How much will this cost?
Colonel Book Bundle will cost $24 per credit hour. For example, a 12-credit hour course load will cost $288.

What if I never verify my order?
Students will receive emails to remind them to verify their order. Students who do not verify their order and do not opt-out will still be charged the Colonel Book Bundle Fee.

If I never pick up my books, will I still get charged?
Yes. If a student has verified their order and did not opt out of the program, they will still be charged.

What if I drop a class?
You may return the book(s) to the Bookstore.  The terms and timelines that are currently in place will remain the same.  If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required textbooks and codes so that you have what you need.

Are all my Required course materials included in the bundle?
Supplies and course materials that are Recommended are not included in the Book Bundle. These items can be purchased separately.

Are OER (Open Educational Resources) Materials supported by the Bundle?
OER (Open Educational Resources) are low to no cost items. Many OER materials are materials that are available for free digitally.

What if I need an accessible format due to an impairment or disability?
Students with disabilities who need textbooks in accessible formats should contact the Student Access Center.

Can I opt out if I picked up my textbooks?

Will supplies be included in the Colonel Book Bundle?
iClickers will be included but other supplies will not be included in the Bundle.

What do I do if I have not received my textbooks?
Orders cannot be processed until your order is verified. If you have already verified your order, call the bookstore and give them your order number so they can check on the status of your order.

What do I do if I am missing a textbook or received the wrong one?
Contact the bookstore team here. Please be sure to include your name and N number. Also, include the course name and section number.

Why is Nicholls State University doing this?
Colonel Book Bundle is an institution-wide response to the increasing number of students who lack access to required course material due to cost. This new program will save the average student $250 a semester on books and provide them by the first day of class.

How does this benefit students?
Colonel Book Bundle makes getting textbooks easier on students, which will ultimately improve their success at Nicholls State University. Not only will students receive their textbooks by the first day of class, but they will save an estimated $250 on textbooks a semester by using the Colonel Book Bundle.

Do I pay Nicholls or the bookstore?
The Colonel Book Bundle charge will be included on the Nicholls student account along with other charges such as tuition and fees. This allows a student to use financial aid, financial payment plan scholarships, etc. to pay for their course material. If any additional merchandise is needed, you will pay the bookstore separately for those items.

Can I choose to participate for some classes but not others?
No. The Colonel Book Bundle program is designed to be an all-in or all-out solution to bring affordability to campus.

What if I don’t want to participate, and I want to buy my textbooks somewhere else?
Students have the ability to opt-out of the program through this website.

What is the deadline for opting out?

A student may choose to opt out until the close of the registration period – noon on the 4th class day in the Fall or Spring terms.

If I drop classes, will I receive a refund?

Colonel Book Bundle charges will be refunded in the same manner as tuition and fee charges are refunded.  A refund schedule is available on the Nicholls State University website.

Is it possible for me to keep a textbook at the end of the semester?

Yes. Students are offered an option to buy the textbook at the end of the semester. Students should contact the bookstore directly if they wish to purchase any of the textbooks obtained as part of the Colonel Book Bundle.

If so, how much will it cost to keep a textbook?

The rental buyout price is a discounted price based upon the market value of that unique material. Please contact the bookstore for more information.

How do I pay for textbooks I want to keep?

The student will have to pay the bookstore for any textbooks they wish to purchase.

Can students highlight and write in the textbooks?

Colonel Book Bundle will cost $25 per credit hour, or $300 for a 12-credit course load.

For program questions, please contact the bookstore here

Why not work directly with publishers?

Publishers do not have the ability to provide all the different formats of content that faculty request at the lowest price possible.

Why not do more to promote open educational resources?

Colonel Book Bundle fully supports OER and takes open educational resource classes into consideration.

How can we be sure that this will lower book costs for our students?

BNC is committed to lowering the costs of course material to our students, and with their integrated supply chain and economies of scale, the Colonel Book Bundle model brings a new innovative way to provide the most affordable solution for our students.

If I adopt open education resources or don’t require a textbook, do my students still have to pay the fee?

Students will pay for the total number of credits taken a semester, not by the number of courses utilizing the program. Students have to either fully opt-in or opt-out for all classes in their semester.

Will this change how textbooks are chosen for my courses?

No. Faculty still can select the content they feel is best for a student’s learning experience. The only change will be the need for timely course material adoptions in order for the best student experience.

Will this limit the choices I have when considering textbooks for adoption?

Not at all. Colonel Book Bundle does not limit your choices.

I currently use a custom textbook. Will that still be an option?

Yes. The Colonel Book Bundle supports current course material adoptions and doesn’t require faculty to change their content.

I allow my students to use older editions of the textbook, will that still be an option?

With BNC’s unique position of the integrated supply chain of the largest used book inventory in the industry, the Nicholls bookstore team can help you procure your requested material for your class.

If my students are able to buy prior editions cheaper, can they be exempted from paying the fee for my course?

No, students pay for the total number of credits taken a semester, not by the number of books they purchase or the number of courses utilizing the program.

What if my teaching assignment changes (e.g., I was scheduled to teach one course, but later assigned to another)?

The bookstore is committed to helping as they normally do in those situations. We will just work to update the textbook adoption platform with the new materials.

How can I change to books for my class?

Nicholls and the bookstore will work together on course material adoption timing to provide the students the best experience.

Can we exempt some courses from this model where students generally use the same textbook multiple semesters so they don’t have to pay twice (or more) for the same book?

No the average price is inclusive of all courses, its by credit hour not by course. There is also no guarantee that a student takes the course in sequence, nor that the book does not change between the student taking the course.
