Campus Update: One Month Until the Beginning of the Fall Semester

Colonel Family,

Today marks one month until the start of the Fall semester. If you’re like me, you are a combination of excited and concerned. Excited to start another semester, and interact with another group of students. Concerned with how we do that safely. To our faculty and our staff, let me express sincere appreciation for the hard work you have put forth to get ready for the semester. This pandemic has presented us with difficult challenges that require unprecedented flexibility. I see you, and I am grateful for you.

Your health is my top priority. I have written to you about masks, protective shields and 6-foot distancing. We have adjusted our academic calendar. Spaces such as the newly renovated Shaver Gym and the Cotillion Ballroom are being repurposed as socially distanced classrooms. And soon we will publicly announce renovations to North and South Babington Halls to aid our need to house resident students.

Our classes are also now hybrid. I would like to thank the nearly 200 faculty who are participating in the HyFlex virtual workshop. This method of teaching will allow flexibility for both in-person and remote learning while giving students the ability to participate in the classroom experience.

If you have questions, I encourage you to visit www.nicholls.edu/covid-19 as a resource for our return to campus. Check back in regularly for updates.

I look forward to seeing each of you again. Stay safe and mask up.

With Colonel Pride,

Jay Clune, President
Nicholls State University
