What is the Little Colonels Academy discipline philosophy?

Little Colonels Academy emphasizes developmentally appropriate positive guidance and discipline. Developmentally appropriate discipline focuses on age, individual and cultural appropriateness. Discipline is administered in a loving and consistent manner in order to encourage self-control, respect for others and self-confidence. To help children adjust to this process, the following guidelines are set at LCA:

  • Children are always treated with respect.
  • Children will assist in developing simple and concise rules and limits.
  • No child will be subject to physical punishment, corporal punishment, verbal abuse or threats.
  • No child will be deprived of meals or snacks or any part thereof for disciplinary reasons.
  • No child will be deprived of outdoor time or rest as means of punishment.

Any form of punishment that violates the spirit of these standards of discipline, even though it may not be specifically mentioned as forbidden, is prohibited.

Do I send lunches or snacks with my son/daughter?
No. A morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack are provided by Sodexo, Nicholls’ catering service and US Foods. Meals are delivered to the preschool room. Sodexo serves balanced meals. We order healthy snacks through US Foods. A sample menu can be provided upon request. We will have some days where your child’s classroom will have picnic lunches. On those days, you will be notified prior to the date so you can provide your child with a lunch.

What if my child gets sick or hurt at school?
If your child becomes ill while at school, we will contact the parents.  If the parents cannot be reached, we will call the alternate emergency contacts. If your child becomes sick and their temperature reaches 99.9° the parent will be notified and they must be sent home. If your child is sent home because of a fever they are not to return until they have been fever free for 24 hours. If your child gets hurt while at school, we will take appropriate actions and have documentation for the parents to sign.  If any accident occurs involving blood, breaking the skin, or any part of the body above the shoulders, we will contact the parents immediately.

What supplies should I provide for my child?
A supply list will be sent home prior to the summer session. Each child should bring personal items specified by the teacher in addition to all items on the class supply list.  All items should be labeled with the child’s first and last name. If the center is running low on supplies, a list will be sent home midway through the school year in order to regain our supplies for the rest of the school year.
