This is done to protect persons participating in the research as well as to keep the university informed of research taking place at the institution.\r\n<h4 class=\"red\">INSTRUCTIONS<\/h4>\r\n<a title=\"Policies and Procedures\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/hsirb\/policies-and-procedures\/\"><strong>Policies and Procedures<\/strong><\/a>\r\n\r\nFollow the link above if you wish to access the policies and procedures of the HSIRB.\r\n\r\n<a title=\"Board Members\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/hsirb\/board-members\/\"><strong>Current Board Members \/ College Representatives<\/strong><\/a>\r\n\r\nFollow the link above if you wish to know who are the members of the current HSIRB and what college each represents.\r\n\r\n<strong>Application for Review<\/strong>\r\n\r\nWhere research:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Will take place in accepted educational settings AND involves normal educational practices;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>OR involves using only questionnaire\/interview survey methods<\/li>\r\n \t<li>OR involves the study of elected or appointed public officials or candidates for public office;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>OR involves using unobtrusive observational techniques;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>OR analyzes existing data available to the public;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>OR some research technique where the anonymity of the subjects will be strictly maintained;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Will complete the National Institute of Health&#8217;s training entitled Protecting Human Research Participants found <a href=\"https:\/\/phrp.nihtraining.com\/users\/login.php\">here<\/a>\u00a0(you will need to register before you enter the training).<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nTHEN you are entitled to ask for HSIRB exemption.\r\n\r\nPlease download the <strong>Request for HSIRB Exemption Form<\/strong> from the <a title=\"Forms\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/hsirb\/forms\/\">forms web page<\/a>.\r\n\r\nComplete the application form (Request for HSIRB Exemption) and send 2 copies to your college representative.\r\n\r\nIn all other cases you will need to complete an application for a Board review. Please download the <strong>Request for Non-Exempt Review Form<\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/hsirb\/forms\/\">forms web page<\/a> and send 10 copies to the Chairperson of the HSIRB.\r\n\r\n<strong>Informed Consent Forms<\/strong>\r\n\r\nIf you are submitting an application, special attention is paid to how you obtain participant consent. There are 2 different Informed Consent Forms depending on the level of complication of the research procedures and whether the researcher has direct contact with the potential participants.
