Houma Today: Nicholls culinary grads get creative as restaurants close due to COVID restrictions

The Courier staff spoke to several Chef John Folse Culinary graduates about how they are handling COVID-19 issues, including Breanna Bolden, Kyong Han, Meifung Liu and Emily Johnson.

Houma Courier: Grand Isle Port Commission selects alum as new executive director

The Grand Isle Port Commission has appointed Nicholls alum Weldon M. Danos as the new executive director.

Welcome to Nicholls:
Evette Dawson, as a custodian for custodial services (Dec. 14).
Lori Gardiner, as an assistant professor for nursing (Jan. 13).

Changes:
Michele Caruso, from associate vice president for student affairs/ dean of students/ interim VP for student affairs to vice president (Jan. 4).
Andrew Kearney, from associate athletic director for compliance and administration to executive associate athletic director for internal affairs (Dec. 12).
Elizabeth Folse, from coordinator for contracts and assignments for residential living to professional academic advisor for the Advising Center (Jan. 11).

Retirement:
Donna Naquin, as an accounting technician who had 21 years of service (Jan. 31).

Nicholls Student Has Article Published on French Club

French Club secretary Sara Guillot, a sophomore in English, published an article in Télé-Louisiane, which is a multimedia platform devoted to Louisiana’s languages, culture and people. The article covers the Nicholls State University students that revitalized the French club at and also talks about accomplishments, goals and achievements to come. You can read the article here.

Office of Student Affairs Announces Awards

The Office of Student Affairs Quality Achievement Awards Recipients are:

  • Amanda Fremin, recipient of the Bonnie J. Bourg, Professional Staff Award
  • Tancy McCartt, recipient of the Joanne C. Ferriot, Support Staff Award

PETSM Gets Good News at American Association of Drillers and Engineers Meeting

From left to right, Lafayette American Association of Drilling Engineers Chapter President Jude Boudreaux, Nicholls AADE Industry liaison Jefferey Svendon, Nicholls Associate Professor Dr. John Griffin (co-sponsor of student section of AADE and founder of section) and AADE scholarship recipient Isaiah Hilts. On Dec. 21, a gift of $3,000 was awarded to PETSM at Nicholls to enhance laboratory instruction. The money is raised through golf tournaments and clay shoots.
