Nicholls Received Over $7 Million in Grant Funding in 2020

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce the Grants Winner Awards for 2020 Academic Year. The top 10 grant winners earned $7,118,917. Winners include:

  • Terry Braud, finance and administration, $5,057,520 from the Department of Postsecondary Education
  • Gina Bergeron, Family Service Center, $522,024 from the Louisiana Department of Health and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services
  • Debi Benoit, Research and Sponsored Programs, $422,736 from the Delta Regional Authority and the U.S. Department of Education
  • Dr. Andrew Simoncelli, Mass Communication and Nicholls Online, $250,076 from the U.S. Department of Education
  • Dr. Balaji Ramachandran, Applied Sciences, $241,685, from the Louisiana Board of Regents, American Sugarcane League and the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government
  • Dr. Marilyn Macik-Frey, College of Business, $180,001, from the Louisiana Small Business Development Center and the U.S. Small Business Development Center
  • Dr. Quenton Fontenot, biological sciences, $165,934, from the Lafourche Parish Government, Resource Environmental Solutions, Entergy and the Lorio Foundation
  • Dr. Gary LaFleur, biological sciences, $104,422, from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management
  • Dr. Jonathan Willis, biological sciences, $98,541, from the City of Thibodaux and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers
  • Dr. Allyse Ferrara, biological sciences, $75,978, from the Port of South Louisiana, Michigan State University and the University of Oregon

Nicholls Seeks Hall of Fame Nominations

Faculty and staff can nominate graduates of Hall of Fame nominations. The student affairs office is looking for students who have distinguished themselves and the university through academic and extra-curricular achievements. Only students with a minimum 3.0 GPA who graduated in the summer and fall of 2020, and those who will graduate spring 2021 are eligible for consideration. 

Nomination forms are due by Friday, Feb. 12 and may be found here.

To be considered, nominated students must complete a co-curricular activities reporting form.  The co-curricular activities reporting form is due in the student affairs office by Thursday, Feb. 18.

Biology Instructor Dr. Boopathy Publishes Research Paper

Dr. Raj Boopathy, Alce Fortier Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences, along with three international colleagues from the Institute of Technology, Bandung, Indonesia, published a paper titled “Thermodynamic Approach to Estimating Reactions and Stoichiometric Coefficients of Anaerobic Glucose and Hydrogen Utilisation” in the Journal Engineering Reports. The paper can be viewed here.

Join SGA In Le Bijou Theatre

Nicholls students, please make plans to join the Student Government Association at its first meeting of the Spring semester at 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 in the Le Bijou Theatre of the Student Union.

SGA Offering Book and Supply Loans, Free Scantrons

Students interested in book, supply and emergency loans should submit their class schedule and book list for verification at the SGA office at the union in Suite 14. The SGA also offers free Scantrons and blue books in the office.

Scholarships Available

Scholarships for the Spring semester are currently available. The deadline date is Friday, Feb. 5. Please contact the scholarship office at 448-4411 if you have any questions.
