Student Employee of the Year Submissions Sought

Please consider recognizing outstanding student employees who have made valuable contributions to your department by nominating them for the 2020-2021 Student Employee of the Year. Undergraduate students employed through the student employment office during the 2020-2021 academic year are eligible to be considered for the award. The deadline to submit your nomination is March 26.

Nicholls will celebrate Student Employee Appreciation Week from April 12-16. This week draws the awareness of others, inside and outside of the university, to the major achievements student workers have made in the multitude of roles they fill. We encourage you to recognize all student employees and the contributions they make to our university.

Student Grant Writers Available

For the second half of the semester, Nicholls grant writing students are required to complete a practicum in which they write a grant for a client.

If you or your department have a suitable project, please let Shana Walton know by March 1 at shana.walton@nicholls.edu. Students can write grants for nonprofits, educational institutions, community groups and for individuals. As part of the process, students can help find appropriate funding sources.

Because they are just beginners, these students are not appropriate grant writers for major foundation proposals or federal grants. Clients should already have an idea of what they want funded; students cannot be asked to develop concepts from scratch for clients.

The client would agree to meet virtually with the student at least 3 times between March 16 and May 3, and the student will send the client a grant narrative, budget and budget justification by semester’s end. Clients, of course, will be responsible for submission.
