Apply for Women's Business Alliance Scholarship

The Women’s Business Alliance is now accepting applications for its 2021 Academic Scholarship Program.

The program, which will award two $1,000 scholarships in 2021, is available to two types of female students pursuing higher education: 2021 graduating high-school senior and the non-traditional student. 

  • The nontraditional student is one aged 25 or older who has returned to college to pursue a degree. Nontraditional applicants must be residents of Terrebonne and/or Lafourche Parishes. Nontraditional applicants must have completed one semester of college and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA. 
    Graduating seniors must be residents of Terrebonne or Lafourche Parishes and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and be entering a Louisiana college or university during the 2021 year. All applicants should visit www.wbahouma.org for further application requirements.
  • The scholarship program embodies the Women’s Business Alliance’s mission of improving the quality of life for women by empowering them in professional endeavors and personal relationships. The scholarship, awarded annually, aims to assist future women business leaders in pursuing their educational goals.

Nicholls Track & Field Hosting Raffle

Nicholls Track & Field is selling $1 raffle tickets. Each ticket enters you into the drawing to win one or more of a total of 10 prizes. For every ticket purchased, the buyer’s name will be printed on a slip of paper to be drawn live at noon on Saturday, April 24 on Instagram. Winners will be contacted afterward. CROWN Members Earn $3,000 Stipend for Howard Summer Program

Three Colonels Retention of Winners Network mentees have been accepted into the Advanced College Summer Enrichment Program at Howard University, College of Pharmacy Center of Excellence. George Lafargue III of New Orleans, Donald Larvadain of Thibodaux, and Carlo Lumpkin of New Iberia have been selected after meeting a 2.75 GPA minimum, high aptitude for science and math and other career requirements for application. The free 4-week online summer program allows students to challenge themselves academically and work with award-winning professors in healthcare. In short, the program has three goals:

  1. To encourage young under-represented minority students to pursue careers in pharmacy or other health professions.
  2. To provide an opportunity for young under-represented minority students to develop mentoring relationships with current  minority health professionals and graduate health professional students.
  3. To facilitate entry to the doctor of pharmacy program.

The three students will each receive a $3,000 stipend for the online summer program, which spans May 17 to June 18. For more information about the program at Howard University, go to Advanced College Summer Enrichment Program

The Blood Center is hosting a blood drive next week in front of the student union. All donations will be screened for COVID-19 antibodies to find potential donors. Each donor will receive a free T-shirt. Walk-ins are welcome.

Peer Tutor and Writing Coach Positions Available

The Tutorial and Academic Enhancement Center is seeking undergraduate peer tutors and writing coaches for the Fall 2021 semester. Qualified applicants should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and a grade of A or B in or placement in the courses they wish to tutor. To complete an application, interested students can visit our webpage, or they may call 448-4100 for more information.  

Call for Presidential Award for Professional Staff

It is time to call for nominations for the Presidential Award for Professional Staff.

All full-time professional unclassified staff, excluding vice presidents, associate vice presidents, assistant vice presidents, and deans, with at least five consecutive years of professional unclassified service at Nicholls is eligible. Attached for your reviews are the procedures, form for nomination, and a list of eligible staff. Past award recipients are not eligible.

The nomination deadline to submit complete nominations is April 21. All nominations should be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Office of Human Resources, attention Steven Kenney. All nominations will be forwarded to the Presidential Award for Professional Staff Screening Committee, to screen for final recommendation to the president.

Call for Mamie Bourgeois and Outstanding Trades Awards

The Mamie Bourgeois Award and Outstanding Trades Employee Award are two awards given annually that recognize the unwavering optimism and honorable service of two civil service employees at Nicholls. So many civil service employees deserve nomination and you have the power to make it happen. The deadline for all nominations to be submitted to the Office of Human Resources is Monday, April 12. Awards will be presented at the Annual Service Awards Program.
