THE ATHLETE/ADVISOR RELATIONSHIP
For the athlete who is majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies, the advisor has a two-fold importance. First, the advisor is a guide for the athlete’s degree requirements. Second, the advisor is trained to make sure that the athlete is taking courses that allow the athlete to remain eligible for sports. This second function is an important one, and Interdisciplinary Studies advisors are trained to understand the N.C.A.A. guidelines for student eligibility.
This second advisor -eligibility- makes the athlete/advisor relationship unique. This unique relationship also makes it very important that all athletes visit advisors regularly, at least once during each semester. Interdisciplinary Studies advisors also try to remain in contact with Nicholls State University’s coaching staff to ensure that athletes at Nicholls are comfortable with the added responsibilities that come with an athletic academic career.
