Trend analyses for ETS Proficiency Profile overall and by academic/subject areas: Fall 2006-2013

Description of ETS Proficiency Profile:

The ETS Proficiency Profile is administered to Nicholls students after the completion of the General Education portion of their program of study. The test is divided into three skills areas (reading, math, and writing), which are divided into three proficiency levels. The test also contains three subject areas (Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences). All students also receive a total scores. Trend analyses for these areas (both compared with past Nicholls results and with national averages for sophomore and junior students at four-year institutions) are discussed below.

I. Total Score – Click here to see a chart showing mean Total scores for Nicholls students from Fall 2006-13. The lower red bar shows the national average for sophomores at four-year         institutions, while the upper red bar shows the national average for juniors at four year institutions.

II. Skills areas: As mentioned above, scores for the Reading, Writing, and Math skills areas are divided into three competency levels (Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 for Writing and Math, with Critical Thinking the equivalent of Level 3 – Reading). Within each competency level, scores are placed into three proficiency classifications (Proficient, Marginal, or Not Proficient). Competency levels and proficiency classifications for each skill area are discussed below.

a) Reading/Critical Thinking – To see a breakout of proficiency classifications for the first two Reading competency levels (Level 1 and Level 2)  for the Fall 2006-13 administrations, click here. III. Academic areas: In addition to the skills areas, the ETS Proficiency Profile contains mean scores for the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. Trend analysis in these academic areas are discussed below:
