class=\"elementor-widget-container\"><p><strong>2024 Fletcher Lecture Series Features Creole Scholar Clint Bruce<\/strong><\/p><p>Translator and cultural historian Clint Bruce will be the guest lecturer for the 2024 Fletcher Lecture series.\u00a0Bruce will speak at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in the Gouaux Hall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p><p>A native of Shreveport, Bruce is the Canada Research Chair in Acadian and Transnational Studies (CR\u00c9AcT) at Universit\u00e9 Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia, where he oversees the Observatoire Nord\/Sud, a center for the study of the Acadian diaspora.<\/p><p>Bruce\u2019s research deals with the Acadian diaspora, both historic and contemporary, and the francophone Atlantic world, with a focus on Louisiana.\u00a0 In addition to his recent <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4139 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/language\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/09\/Clint-Bruce.png\" alt=\"Portrait photograph of Clint Bruce\" width=\"372\" height=\"285\" \/>book\u00a0<em>Afro-Creole Poetry in French from Louisiana\u2019s Radical Civil War-Era Newspapers: A Bilingual Edition<\/em>\u00a0(The Historic New Orleans Collection with University of Virginia Press, 2020), his scholarly work has appeared in journals in the United States, in Canada, and in Europe.<\/p><p>He is currently preparing a monograph titled\u00a0<em>By Any Means Necessary: Africans, Acadians, and the 1858 Killing of Constant Melan\u00e7on, Sugar Planter of Louisiana, by Toussaint, His Slave and Childhood Friend<\/em>. Bruce also serves as co-editor of the journal\u00a0<em>Port Acadie: revue interdisciplinaire en \u00e9tudes acadiennes<\/em>.<\/p><p>For 39 years The Fletcher Lecture Series has brought major writers and literary figures to campus to speak and interact with students.
