Mary Miller, acclaimed author of Biloxi<\/em> and The Last Days of California<\/em>, a wide array of short fiction, and considered a preeminent coming-of-age writer, will be the Nicholls State University 2019 Fletcher Lecturer.<\/p>\n

Mary Miller<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Miller\u2019s presentation will be at 6 p.m. October 3, 2019, in the auditorium of Gouaux Hall on Nicholls State University\u2019s campus. The talk is free and open to the public. Miller will sign books afterward. Books will be on sale in the lobby outside the auditorium. \u00a0Miller will host a question and answer session at 11 a.m. in the Le Bijou Theater in the Nicholls Student Union.<\/p>\n

Biloxi by Mary Miller<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Miller’s first novel, The Last Days of California,<\/em> achieved critical and popular acclaim and novelist Alexis Smith has called it \u201cthe Sense and Sensibility<\/em> of pre-Apocalypse America.\u201d \u00a0Miller\u2019s short fiction has appeared in the Oxford American<\/em>, New Stories from the South<\/em>, McSweeney\u2019s Quarterly<\/em>, American Short Fiction<\/em>, Mississippi Review<\/em>, among many others.\u00a0 The National Book Review<\/em> called her most recent collection of stories, Always Happy Hour<\/em>, a \u201cstunning (and well-titled) collection of short fiction involving complicated, unprivileged women on the precipice of adulthood.\u201d Biloxi<\/em> is Miller\u2019s most recent novel, and it has already met with critical and popular acclaim.<\/p>\n
