His documentary short,<em> Under the Knife: Overcoming Boundaries<\/em>, screened at the massive outdoor cinema on the Lafitte Greenway in a shorts program called &#8220;Small Town Louisiana.&#8221;<\/p><p>Liang&#8217;s film is about Nicholls&#8217; Culinary student, Blake Bowdin, who has unique challenges. Living with cystic fibrosis and a double lung transplant, Bowdin also thrives as a budding chef while legally blind. It&#8217;s truly an inspiring story and a calling card for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/culinary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Folse Culinary Institute<\/a>, the Film Studies concentration, and Nicholls State University.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-3728 alignleft lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/language\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/11\/IMG_3419-200x200.jpg\" alt=\"New Orleans Film Festival\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 200\/200;\" \/>Liang created his film as part of Assistant Melissa Remark&#8217;s ENGL 446: Documentary Film Production class. The film was screened as part of the 2020 Undergraduate Humanities Symposium @ Scholars Expeaux.<\/p><p>Film students, Owen Callais, Amanda Eschete, Kacie Fields, and Hannah Guillot, and Assistant Professor Melissa Remark participated in a Service Learning project, volunteering at the film festival, which overlapped with Liang&#8217;s screening.
