About Lede New Orleans<\/b> Lede New Orleans is a community media hub transforming how journalism serves the people of our city. We train emerging Black and Brown storytellers, amplify stories that respond to local needs, and foster trusted spaces for civic discussion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lede New Orleans a small nonprofit startup, not a big, buttoned-up newsroom. That means we\u2019re often documenting processes as we go, testing new ideas and figuring things out together. We\u2019re looking for someone who is deeply community-oriented and thrives in environments where flexibility, creativity and collaboration are key.
About the Job<\/b> The Community Reporting Fellowship is a 24-week training program that pays emerging Black and Brown storytellers, ages 18-25, to sharpen their skills in journalism and civic leadership. As Senior Editor, you will work with a team of local journalists and fellows to oversee journalistic content produced by the Community Reporting Fellowship program. The Senior Editor also works with program staff to support training as needed, including facilitating the occasional journalism skills workshop. We are looking for someone who has experience making journalism that covers local people and issues, and collaborating with a team to manage journalism projects in multiple mediums, including text, photo and video. The ideal candidate will be:<\/span><\/p>\n

– detail-oriented in managing deliverables and timelines for multiple journalism projects through all phases from story development to publication;<\/p>\n

– collaborative in sharing knowledge and asking for support; and<\/p>\n

– can take initiative to move journalism projects forward, including through gaps in process.<\/p>\n

This is a part-time position open to candidates with professional editing experience, a dedication to the craft of reporting and multimedia storytelling, and an understanding of and commitment to Lede New Orleans\u2019 mission.

Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n

– Lead the editorial direction, planning, and production of journalism content created by the Community Reporting Fellowship program.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Work closely with fellows, local journalists, and program staff to guide story development from pitch to publication across mediums, including written, photo, audio and video.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Provide hands-on editing, feedback and coaching to fellows and collaborating journalists, supporting both the quality of the journalism and the growth of emerging storytellers.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Ensure all content aligns with the fellowship\u2019s values of community-powered, equitable, and liberatory journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Manage editorial workflows, timelines, and collaborative processes to ensure smooth production and publication of fellow-produced content.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Stay informed on local issues, civic processes, and cultural conversations relevant to New Orleans\u2019 Black and Brown communities, and support fellows in covering these stories with care and depth.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Support content distribution strategies in collaboration with the program and communications teams, ensuring fellow-produced work reaches relevant audiences and communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Collaborate with the Fellowship Coordinator and training facilitators to support journalism skill-building workshops and learning sessions as needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Provide technical coaching and regular, constructive feedback on audio projects completed by fellows<\/span><\/p>\n

– Foster a supportive, inclusive, and growth-oriented editorial environment, especially for fellows who are new to journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Contribute to program evaluation by providing feedback on fellows\u2019 progress and supporting documentation of editorial outcomes.
Qualifications<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/b>3+ years experience as an editor in a newsroom or journalism project environment with a multimedia approach to storytelling.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple storytelling teams to develop and manage journalism projects in multiple mediums, including text, photography, and video.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, particularly around active listening, facilitation, emotional regulation and cultivating buy-in. Demonstrated experience communicating with diverse team members and audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Exceptional project and workflow management skills, with the ability to coordinate workflows and set realistic deadlines.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Familiarity with the media landscape and local issues in New Orleans, including its culture, communities, and civic life.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Commitment to transforming how media serves communities that have been historically under- and misrepresented in local media.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Commitment to equitable, community-powered journalism, and storytelling that strengthens and liberates marginalized communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Demonstrated proficiency with Google Suite, MS Office Suite, and other workplace software and platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to mentor, coach, and support emerging journalists from Black and Brown communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Ability to give clear, constructive editorial feedback to both seasoned journalists and those new to the craft.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Flexibility and willingness to support program staff in delivering journalism and civic leadership training sessions as needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

– An innate curiosity and interest in growing, learning and adapting in your work and practice.
Compensation, Benefits & Support<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/b>Compensation is $30 per hour, at 20 hours per week<\/span><\/p>\n

– $300 monthly health care stipend<\/span><\/p>\n

– 15 days of paid vacation<\/span><\/p>\n
