Today, business is not just conducted within the confines of an office. Business professionals must know how to conduct themselves and represent their company at the dining table and in other social settings.
To address that need, SHRM@NSU hosted an etiquette dinner to offer the Nicholls community a fun and entertaining opportunity to learn dining etiquette. Our presenter this year was Mrs. Mary Bourg Chauvin from Houma, LA! At the event, she addressed proper dining etiquette and reviewed general topics, such as making introductions, getting in and out of a chair and tipping. Participants also learned the acceptable etiquette for each particular course as it is served. To know more about our presenter, go to www.ecsouth.com.
Hahnville High School Orientation – February 26, 2016
SHRM@NSU hosted a presentation for 20 Hahnville High School juniors and seniors interested in a Business career. In the event, we talked about how to not only update your resume and application, but also how to give the best first impression possible. They learned how to give proper handshakes and how to stand tall and proud!
We think that it was a great presentation, and we want to thank all of the students and staff members at Hahnville High School for the arrangements made.
NSU Student Orientation, 2015
This year SHRM@NSU played a very active role during New Student Orientation. We set up a table adjacent to the College of Business booth. We talked to the new students about our organization and what we do. Our officers were very creative this year and implemented a wonderful idea – a photo booth!! The new students that visited our table had the opportunity of their photos taken, with our officers, or their friends, all dressed up in their choice of funny masks, hats, etc, supplied by us. The photo booth was an instant hit, and we saw a large number of visitors.
LASHRM Annual Conference – Apr 9 & 10, 2015
The 2015 Louisiana State Conference on Human Resources was held on April 9-10, 2015 at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. SHRM@NSU members participated in the annual event hosted by LASHRM. The two-day event provided engaging educational sessions and network building activities in a professional setting with more than 400 Human Resource professionals from across the state. Our members volunteered for managing the different speaker sessions, introduced the speakers during the sessions, helped conference participants by sharing information regarding and directions to the various events. Thanks to our volunteers, SHRM@NSU was greatly appreciated by the organizers and the speakers alike.
