Academic Requirements and Policies

Q. Is the TOEFL test score required?
A. A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 550 is required for students from countries where English is not the native language.

Q. What is the average Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score of Nicholls’ accepted applicants?
A. The average score on the GMAT for Nicholls State University students is 478.

Q. My undergraduate grade point average was 2.8, what GMAT score do I need to apply?
A. You must score a 450. A minimum GMAT score of 450 is required for all applicants. In addition, applicants must meet either one of the following criteria:

  • score at least 950 on the formula: GPA (from all undergraduate work) x 200 + GMAT total score
  • score at least 1000 on the formula: GPA (from the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework) x 200 + GMAT total score

Q. Can I transfer credits into the Nicholls MBA program?
A. The Nicholls Graduate School permits a maximum of nine graduate credits to be transferred into a degree program from another university. They are to be equivalent to the Nicholls courses and/or appropriate for the program. The semester of the earliest course transferred into the program marks the beginning of the seven years permitted to complete the degree.

Q. Can a person pass out of any course or skip courses due to years of experience?
A. Nicholls does not give credit for life experiences. If you have acquired the knowledge of a course, you can attempt to earn credit by examination.

Q. I have no college education but have been in management for 14 years. Can I be admitted into the MBA program?
A. No, all students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university.

Q. My undergraduate grade point average is 3.95, and I have more than 10 years of business experience. Do I need to take the GMAT, GRE or any other exam?
A. Yes, the GMAT score is part of the admission data needed to determine what students are admitted into the program and is therefore required for all applicants.

Q. Can I enroll in graduate business classes as a non-candidate for a degree until I take the GMAT?
A. No, you must be enrolled in a degree program to be eligible to take graduate business courses from Nicholls. We require the GMAT score as part of the admission decision. If you were admitted into another Nicholls graduate program, you could take graduate business classes.
