Mosaic is released annually in the spring and features artwork and writing—poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, freshmen essays, and drama—by current Nicholls students. This year, we received over 200 submissions, and we accepted approximately ninety pieces. Through a blind-review process (in which writers’ names are withheld), submissions are read and ranked by the editorial board and students in ENGL 432: Publishing Practicum. The top-ranked pieces are entered as finalists for the Albert Davis Fiction Award, the David Middleton Poetry Award, the Freshmen Essay Award, the Outstanding Art Award, and a new award for creative nonfiction. Judges in each category select a first, second, and third-place winner. These winners receive publication in the new issue, as well as a cash award.
Copies of the magazine are free and available on the Mosaic racks around campus. You can find these racks in the Student Union, the Colonel’s Retreat, Peltier Hall, Beauregard, Elkins, Candies, Talbot, Powell-White, Ellender Library, and Polk.
Any current, fee-paying student enrolled at Nicholls is eligible to submit their writing or artwork. To be considered for publication in Mosaic, submit your writing and/or artwork to email@example.com
