Michelle Z. Parro is the accompanist for Nicholls State University’s Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and numerous performances of both students and faculty. A highly respected and much in demand local piano instructor, Parro, through her DoReMichelle Music Academy, maintains a current studio of 140 students. She is a frequent adjudicator across the state for piano festivals and competitions, and has served as the LMTA district rally chair since 1983. As a nationally certified music teacher by MTNA, she has made several presentations at Louisiana state conventions, and her classes are often observed by piano pedagogy students from across the state.
Parro holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, with a minor in History, from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she studied under Madelyn Trible. She also received certification in the Yamaha Music Education system in Irvine, California, training under Christine Barden and Philip Keveren. Under the Yamaha Education system, she received the Award of Excellence for the highest nationwide student retention rate, and has been a featured teacher in Crescendo Magazine.
DoReMichelle Music Academy students have won several state and national awards in music composition contests, piano solo, ensemble and concerto performances, as well as vocal solo and ensemble performances. Approximately 100 high school students have presented senior recitals, several going on to major in music—piano and/or vocal at various colleges and universities. As a music educator, she hopes to create in students the same immense joy she feels to have music in her life every day.
