Nicholls student leaders elected, awarded

THIBODAUX – The student body of Nicholls State University has elected Student Government Association officers, senators, justices and election commission members for the coming academic year.

“These students have been chosen by their peers to represent their interests on campus, and I am confident that they will perform their duties well,” Dr. Eugene Dial, vice president for student affairs and enrollment services, said. “We are proud of our student leaders, and we look forward to all of their accomplishments, both at Nicholls and beyond.”

Officers include President Matthew Jewell of Luling, Vice President Gavin Johnson of Larose, Treasurer Lohan Kotzé of South Africa, Director of Student Rights and Grievances Brittany Chiasson of Thibodaux, Director of Public Relations Melissa Cloutet of Bush, and Web Technician Sarabeth Theriot of Thibodaux.

Senators for the College of Arts and Sciences include Theriot; Gabby Marcello of Schriever; Stephanie O’Gwynn of Ponchatoula; and Brittnee Dalton of Lee’s Summit, Mo. The College of Business Administration’s senators include Beth Barrilleaux of Larose, Jessica St. Pierre of Thibodaux, Erin Fontenot of Westlake and John Berger of Thibodaux. Senator Ashley Talbot of Schriever will represent the College of Nursing and Allied Health. Senators-at-large include Elizabeth Bergeron of Morgan City; Victor Hernandez of Montegut; Mingma Sherpa of Kathmandu, Nepal; and Cody Hood of Napoleonville.

Student Supreme Court justices include Chief Justice Lauren Pitre of Cut Off and Associate Justices Trevor Boudreaux and Drew Ledet, both of Thibodaux, and Yvette Barbier of Baton Rouge.

The SGA Student Election Commission will be headed by Commissioner Cera Boatwright of Des Allemands and commission members Alicia Kozak of Denham Springs and Dustin Thibodeaux of Houma.

Silverii

SGA student awards for 2011-12 have been presented as well. John Lombardo and Hailey Silverii, both of Thibodaux, were named Mr. and Ms. Nicholls 2012. Melissa Cloutet of Bush received the Outstanding Senator award, and student senator scholarships were presented to Cloutet and Brittany Chiasson of Thibodaux.
