Nicholls PETSM receives donation from Morgan City Oilfield Rodeo

THIBODAUX, La. — The Morgan City Oilfield Fishing Rodeo has donated $8,000 to Nicholls State University’s Department of Petroleum Engineering Technology and Safety Management,

“We’re committed to supporting education in the Bayou Region and the includes Nicholls State University,” said Joey Cannata, operations manager at Tanks-A-Lot. “I’ve been very happy with how the PETSM department at Nicholls has used our money. You can see the University and the campus improving.”

Founded in 2013 by Morgan City-based deepwater container specialist Tanks-A-Lot, MCOFR has now donated nearly $45,000 to Nicholls. The nonprofit hosted its fishing rodeo each May with the purpose of promoting community spirit in the local oil and gas industry while benefiting notable organizations for future growth within the community. Tanks-A-Lot employees, many of whom are Nicholls alumni, and countless volunteers have worked to ensure each rodeo is more successful than the one before.

In the spring, Nicholls unveiled a well control simulation lab which was partially funded by donations from the MCOFR. Michael Gautreaux, executive director of PETSM, said this donation will go towards modernizing the process safety lab.

“We couldn’t do this without the support from the Morgan City Oilfield Rodeo and the community,” Gautreaux said. “We can use this money to better prepare our students to work in a modern petroleum environment.”
