THIBODAUX, La. — A special viewing of several documents and artifacts detailing the Bayou Region’s war efforts during World War I will be on display Monday, Oct. 23, on the Nicholls State University campus.
Featured items on display, including the Elks Lodge 1918 parade flag, will be provided by the archives of the Ellender Memorial Library and the Regional Military Museum.
The event is free and open to the public from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom in the Student Union.
The reception is held in conjunction with an exhibit honoring the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entrance into World War I held at the Nicholls library.
Included in the exhibit will be letters, photographs, scrapbooks, sheet music, poetry and other documents from the Nicholls archives, as well as artifacts loaned by the Regional Military Museum in Houma, including uniforms, bayonets, models, posters and a German trench mortar.
The exhibit opens runs through January 2018 and will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday in the archives and special collections department of the library.
