Music Department Holiday Gala to benefit scholarship fund

THIBODAUX, La. — The Nicholls Department of Music invites you to get into the holiday spirit next month as several student ensembles will perform Christmas favorites including exciting new arrangements of “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells” and “Sleigh Ride.”

The Holiday Gala, set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 in the Mary and Al Danos Theater, will feature the Jazz Ensemble, Gospel Choir, Concert Choir and Symphonic Winds Ensemble.

“The collaboration will give the listener an eclectic mix of holiday favorites from the sublime to the energetic and everything in between – there will be something on this program that will appeal to every listener,” said Dr. John St. Marie, assistant music professor and director of choral activities.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students through etix.com, by searching for Nicholls Holiday Gala. Proceeds from the evening’s performance will benefit the music department’s scholarship fund.

The department is also inviting patrons to become founding members of the Friends of Music by purchasing a ticket at the donor rate of $50.

“Not only will you be supporting deserving young talent through our scholarship fund, but Friends of Music will also receive a few perks for their donation including reserved seating and being recognized as a supporter of music in our program,” said St. Marie. “Additionally, the first 40 founding members will be invited to a post-concert Wine Reception.”

Contact the department at 448-4600 to become a Friends of Music patron and reserve tickets for the Holiday Gala.
