Nicholls music invites you to Camerata string instrument concert

THIBODAUX, La. — The Nicholls State University Department of Music will host its Camerata concert featuring Baroque style dance pieces later this month.

The event, free and open to the public, will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at the Mary and Al Danos Theater. The ensemble, with several new international students, will be performing Baroque style pieces including Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite, which was inspired by a 17th-century Norwegian playwright.

The Camerata is a chamber ensemble comprised of members of the string instrument program at Nicholls State University. The ensemble, which is performed without a conductor, attracts students from all over the world and features instruments including violins, violas and cellos. The intensive study program was started by music instructor James Alexander in 2007.

The Camerata’s musical repertoire ranges from the baroque period to modern.
