{"id":197,"date":"2008-04-02T10:43:51","date_gmt":"2008-04-02T15:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2008\/04\/02\/community-bank-supplements-nicholls-student%e2%80%99s-education\/"},"modified":"2008-04-02T10:43:51","modified_gmt":"2008-04-02T15:43:51","slug":"community-bank-supplements-nicholls-students-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2008\/04\/02\/community-bank-supplements-nicholls-students-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Bank supplements Nicholls student\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THIBODAUX &#8211; Catherine Loupe, a graduate of Berwick High School and freshman broadcast journalism major at Nicholls State University, has been awarded the Community Bank Excellence in Mass Communication Endowed Scholarship for the Spring 2008 semester.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarship Committee to a mass communication major chosen from among an application pool of entering freshmen who have graduated from a Louisiana high school. The four-year award, among the largest endowed scholarships at Nicholls, was created by the family of Nicholls donor Harold Callais. The scholarship pays about $1,000 per semester as long as the recipient is a full-time student in mass communication and earns at least a 2.75 grade-point average each semester.<\/p>\n<p>Callais, a former Golden Meadow entrepreneur and civic leader, founded a number of businesses across south Louisiana, mostly in the fields of mass communication, banking and solid waste disposal. He was a member of the Louisiana Board of Regents since 1983, serving as chairman from 1996 to 1998. Callais died in 2000 while on a scuba diving trip in the Gulf of Mexico.
