THIBODAUX \u2013 Dr. Allayne \u201cLaynie\u201d Barrilleaux, interim vice president for academic affairs at Nicholls State University, has officially been selected as vice president for academic affairs, contingent upon the approval of the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Barrilleaux<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The official recommendation by Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, will be submitted to the board at its next meeting Friday, Oct. 28.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the campus had the opportunity to consider four talented finalists, from this president\u2019s perspective, Laynie brings the greater balance of professional experience, understanding of the complex and challenging accountability agenda of government, and enthusiasm for the hard work that lies ahead for Nicholls,\u201d Hulbert said. \u201cI look forward to her leadership within the executive team and with the faculty as together we continue to build upon the foundation of our already strong academic programs.\u201d<\/p>\n

A 30-year veteran of higher education, Distinguished Service Professor of Management and former liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Barrilleaux served as assistant vice president for academic affairs at Nicholls from 2005 to 2010, after which she assumed her current duties as interim vice president upon the retirement of Dr. Carroll Falcon. Her academic focuses include human resource management and business communications, and she has published numerous refereed journal articles throughout her career, conducted presentations at a variety of professional conferences and written several successful grants.<\/p>\n

Barrilleaux\u2019s community service activities include serving as a member of the board of the regional Council for a Better Louisiana, Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce and United Way for South Louisiana. She is also a past president of the Thibodaux Rotary Club.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow exciting it is for me to move into this leadership position at a university that is so dear to me and so critical to south Louisiana,\u201d Barrilleaux said. \u201cI am proud to be a member of the Nicholls family and its leadership team. Our academic programs are solid, our faculty is dedicated, and we are committed to meeting the workforce development needs of our region. My immediate goal is to build upon the strength of our existing programs through innovative ideas, and to fill any existing gaps through new programs or initiatives. I also look forward to continuing our relationship with Fletcher Technical Community College, as well as leading efforts to strengthen Nicholls\u2019 relationship with all of our constituents in the south Louisiana community. Nicholls is here to stay, I am honored to be a part of it, and I encourage the community to take advantage of all we have to offer: strong academic and continuing education programs, meaningful research activities, exciting athletic events, and rich and colorful cultural experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n
