Degrees were conferred and presented by Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, at the Houma-Terrebonne  Civic Center. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Gov. Bobby Jindal delivered the keynote address, encouraging graduates to keep their minds open to innovation, to avoid becoming conformists and to &#8220;dream big.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Make your lives count for something bigger than yourselves,&#8221; Jindal said.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Eight baccalaureate graduates earned degrees with the highest academic honors &#8211; summa cum laude. They are Aimee Maria Babin of Houma, a nursing major; Lottie C. Danos of Larose, an elementary education &#8211; 1-5 certification major; Mandy Lynn Folse of Lockport, an elementary education &#8211; 1-5 certification major; Scott Anthony Hebert of Houma, a general studies major; Emily Verret Huffaker of Houma, an art major; Lauren Nicole Mouton of Abbeville, a general family and consumer science &#8211; social services major; Lori Gail Waguespack of Vacherie, a biology &#8211; pre-physical therapy major; and Alisha Ann Yates of Raceland, a nursing major.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/files\/2008\/12\/nsufall40grads__web.jpg\" alt=\"nsufall40grads__web.jpg\" align=\"right\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/>Four of these students &#8211; Babin, Danos, Folse and Yates &#8211; graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning the President&#8217;s Medal of Honor.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the university awarded the honorary doctor of letters degree to Dr. Alfred Delahaye, professor emeritus of journalism, who joined the Nicholls faculty in 1957<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Graduates are listed below by degree and parish, or &#8220;Out of State&#8221; origin, with academic honors in baccalaureate curricula included. Summa cum laude indicates the student earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or higher.
