<\/a><\/p>\nNicholls State University\u2019s Department of Art hosted its annual \u201cHigh School Day,\u201d attracting more than 270 students from 14 area high schools. The department\u2019s major annual recruiting initiative, this free event provides area high school students an opportunity to participate in hands-on art projects while learning about the art degree program at Nicholls. Art faculty, along with 85 Nicholls students, conducted 49 workshops, multiple demonstrations and lectures in art history, photography, graphic design, painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking. Participating high school students created collages and photograms; witnessed demonstrations in silk screening and pottery; saw metal being poured; and experienced several other artistic techniques.\u00a0Pictured is\u00a0Michael Williams, assistant professor of art, showing area high school students examples of iron sculptures.<\/p>\n
