THIBODAUX \u2013 Nicholls State University will hire around 70 students to work in the Harold J. Callais Memorial Recreation Center, scheduled to open this fall.<\/p>\n

Of the 400 applicants, around 70 will work in the Harold J. Callais Memorial Recreation Center, scheduled to open this fall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Michael Matherne, director of campus recreation, said the new workforce will include intramural referees; group exercise instructors; customer service associates; weight and cardio room monitors; and weekend building supervisors. The employees are being chosen from a pool of 400 applicants, Matherne said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very excited about taking this next step as we count down to the recreation center\u2019s grand opening,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re choosing the best of the best to work here. I\u2019m certain that those who use the center will appreciate not only the building and the equipment, but the outstanding service as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the newly hired customer service associates \u2013 junior psychology major and intramural athlete Katherine Gianelloni \u2013 said the 63,000-square-foot facility will be a welcome addition to the Nicholls campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur new rec center will give students more opportunities to get physically fit and new options for involvement in campus life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

All student workers at the recreation center will be paid via student-assessed operational fees.
