Attendees will learn about plans for a new charter school specifically designed for students with dyslexia.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-4456 lazyload\" title=\"Dyslexia Center Logo\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2012\/09\/Dyslexia-Center-Logo-220x122.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"147\" height=\"81\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 147px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 147\/81;\" \/>The proposed Louisiana Key Academy, if approved by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, will open in fall 2013 at LSU\u2019s Innovation Park. The school will initially admit kindergarten through second-grade students. Each year thereafter, additional grade levels will be added up to the fifth grade. Enrollment will be free.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of this information session is basically to inform parents and recruit students,\u201d said Karen Chauvin, director of the dyslexia center at Nicholls. \u201cWe\u2019re especially hoping to see parents of children who have either been diagnosed with dyslexia or show signs of the disorder. The Louisiana Key Academy\u2019s mission is simple \u2013 to make sure children learn to read so that they can reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The information session is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the LSU College of Business Administration on the Nicholson Drive Extension.
