Picou also participated in an REU project last year and came back to Nicholls ready to become a physical chemist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe encourage Nicholls students to participate in REUs because they get to work with some of the best scientists in the world,\u201d said Chad Young, associate professor of physical sciences. \u201cAnd for Nicholls, these programs learn that the Department of Physical Sciences has the best students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Picou said the project will give him a hands-on experience in a specialized field of chemistry and also allow him to learn from graduate students.
