(Misty McElroy\/Nicholls State University)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; Nicholls State University and the University of New Orleans today announced a partnership between the two schools that will lead to increased opportunities for student success. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Presidents from the two universities signed a memorandum of understanding that creates a pathway for students from Nicholls to easily transition to UNO to complete a degree in civil engineering, and for students from UNO to transfer to Nicholls and complete courses that would help them attain a professional land surveying certification from the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Survey Board. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe need coastal engineering in order to save our coast and in order to have coastal engineering, you need civil engineering,\u201d said Dr. Jay Clune, Nicholls president. \u201cThis gives our students an opportunity to earn a civil engineering degree by doing most of the course work here at Nicholls, then finishing at UNO and returning to this area, rather than going to a faraway university, staying there and not returning home.
