THIBODAUX, La. — Four influential women will discuss the impact women are making in Louisiana next week at Nicholls State University next week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hosted by the Nicholls chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the panel will be at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The event will be in the Ellender Memorial Library Multipurpose Room and is free and open to the public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elizabeth Batte, an AAUW-Nicholls faculty advisor, said students can have that feeling that they need to go somewhere \u201cbigger\u201d in order to succeed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo many Nicholls students come from Louisiana. It\u2019s important for them to know they don\u2019t have to leave their home state to make an impact,\u201d said Batte, the electronic resources librarian and OER coordinator at Nicholls. \u201cThey don\u2019t even have to leave Thibodaux to be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Panelists include Lafourche Parish District Attorney, Kristine Russell, nurse and Nicholls MSN coordinator Dr. Melissa Clay, Houma Today journalist Halle Parker and writer, filmmaker and assistant professor of English, Melissa Remark. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe chose these women because they come from various fields of work which will help us understand the challenges that women face in different fields,\u201d said AAUW-Nicholls student president Ly Ly Chiasson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Formed in 1881 with a commitment to empowering women, AAUW has worked to improve the lives of millions of women and their families for over 130 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AAUW-Nicholls is a student-led organization founded in 2017. Their goal is to further empower women and girls through professional development, scholarship, service and wellness opportunities open to all members of the campus community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
