THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University has launched a Center for Teaching Excellence<\/a> to advance faculty professional development on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences<\/a> building, the center\u2019s goal is to assist in the education, retention and graduation of students. The center will host workshops promoting research into the practice of teaching, and provide consultations to help improve learning assessment in students.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Aimee Hollander<\/a>, assistant professor of teacher education, is the director of the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Center for Teaching Excellence will provide a physical space and learning community for faculty to hone their teaching craft. This will improve teaching and learning in their classrooms,\u201d Dr. Hollander said. \u201cAll programming provided by the center must include some aspect for inclusive pedagogy. This means professors will always be learning how to create a more equitable curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hollander said the center\u2019s goals are to promote inclusive teaching methods and improve course design. She also wants to encourage the development of innovative teaching strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want faculty to strive to become the best instructors possible,\u201d Dr. Hollander said. \u201cOur vision of the center is to help faculty achieve their professional goals through learning communities, guest speakers and workshops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
