{"id":8464,"date":"2021-05-06T14:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T19:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=8464"},"modified":"2021-05-06T11:28:10","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T16:28:10","slug":"professional-organization-honors-nicholls-professor-with-top-educator-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2021\/05\/06\/professional-organization-honors-nicholls-professor-with-top-educator-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Professional Organization Honors Nicholls Professor with Top Educator Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; The <a href=\"https:\/\/lsps.net\/\">Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors<\/a> (LSPS) gave a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/\">Nicholls State University<\/a> professor its top award for faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/honors\/faculty\/dr-brigett-scott\/\">Dr. Brigett Scott<\/a> received the 2019-2020 Outstanding Educator Award at the 2021 LSPS Convention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Scott, whose background is in dietetics, is the associate dean of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/science-technology\/\">College of Science and Technology<\/a> and director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/honors\/\">University Honors Program<\/a>. She was the interim department head of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/applied-sciences\/\">applied sciences<\/a> in 2019-2020. In 2006, the Louisiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics named Dr. Scott Outstanding Dietetic Educator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis award from LSPS was a total surprise, but I enjoyed working with the faculty and students in applied sciences,\u201d said Dr. Scott. \u201cOur students and professors are a hardworking group of individuals. I am proud of what we accomplished together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1961, LSPS is a professional organization intent on enhancing the profession of land surveying. The group supports professionals and educational institutions by offering learning and leadership opportunities. LSPS also offers initiatives to foster interest in the philosophy and history of land surveying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLSPS welcomed me into their organization even though I was only department head for one year,\u201d Dr. Scott said. \u201cThey want to see Nicholls Geomatics succeed, and they want to be a part of that success. I am honored to be recognized as their outstanding educator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Applied Sciences features two degree programs in geomatics and pre-engineering. Students learn from award-winning faculty in uniquely designed curriculums.
