{"id":314,"date":"2010-01-20T08:56:47","date_gmt":"2010-01-20T13:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/safety\/?page_id=314"},"modified":"2020-12-15T23:30:26","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T23:30:26","slug":"pandemic-plan","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/safety\/emergency-procedures\/pandemic-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandemic Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following document is a pandemic illness plan for Nicholls State University; this is not static as conditions may change on or off campus.\u00a0 The purpose of this document is to provide guidance to University employees, on the proper procedure for implementing a response to any pandemic communicable illness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To educate and inform university staff, faculty, and community,<\/li>\n<li>Implement prevention and safe practices by all on campus,<\/li>\n<li>Provide care to infected individuals with resources available,<\/li>\n<li>Take all precautionary measures to prevent the spread,<\/li>\n<li>Return to normal campus operations when the threat is over.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To provide and distribute educational information, including materials and supplies,<\/li>\n<li>Maintain contact with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Office of Public Health (OPH) and the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security,<\/li>\n<li>Follow CDC and OPH guidelines,<\/li>\n<li>Secure supplies and resources needed for prevention and response,<\/li>\n<li>Provide for temporary housing and food services for infected students,<\/li>\n<li>Close the university if required,<\/li>\n<li>Maintain basic academic structures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pandemic Illness Responses by Phases: Phase One, Phase Two, Phase Three, Phase Four, and Phase Five<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Phase 1 \u2013 Confirmed cases of human \u2013 to- human transmission of a potential pandemic illness with a probability of reaching the U.S. (Campus Open, Business as usual)<\/p>\n<p>Phase 2 \u2013 Confirmed case (s) in the United States (Campus Open, begin possible level 3 preparations)<\/p>\n<p>Phase 3 \u2013 Suspected case(s) on Campus or confirmed cases(s) in the State of Louisiana (Campus open, implement social distancing, prepare to cancel classes and or other scheduled activities, prepare for probable campus closure)<\/p>\n<p>Phase 4 \u2013 Confirmed Case(s) on Campus (University possible closure, declared emergency condition, facilities may close except for skeletal services, temporary housing if needed established, access to campus secured)<\/p>\n<p>Phase 5 \u2013 Recovery Operations<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>It should be noted that the above phases do not correspond to the levels set forth by the World Health Organization (WHO) or the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"110\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"93\">Phase 1<\/td>\n<td width=\"114\">Phase 2<\/td>\n<td width=\"163\">Phase 3<\/td>\n<td width=\"113\">Phase\u00a0 4<\/td>\n<td width=\"113\">Phase 5<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"110\"><strong>Emergency Preparedness Committee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<td width=\"93\">Updates received from University Health Services &amp; University Env.
