University\u2019s Inside Out Program is based on the international Inside Out Prison Exchange model that creates a dynamic partnership between institutions of higher learning and correctional systems. The course focuses on conversations that transform our approaches to the understanding of crime, justice, freedom, inequality, and other issues of social concern.<\/p><p>The model was founded in 1995 by Lori Pompa, a criminal justice professor at Temple University. Inside Out courses have been taught at over 200 correctional facilities with facilitators trained from over 350 colleges and universities in nearly every U.S. state, as well as several other countries (i.e. Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Mexico, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom).<\/p><p>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.insideoutcenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" Correctional Complex<\/strong> (952 LA-3185, Thibodaux, LA). \u201cOutside\u201d students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the facility; however, the opportunity to arrange carpools will be provided prior to the first off campus meeting.<\/p><p>Nicholls students who are interested in taking the Inside Out course are to submit the application below. Prospective applicants will be asked to attend a 15-minute screening interview with the selection committee. Students should enroll in their classes as usual.
