How to Register and Request Academic Accommodations<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Students are strongly encouraged to start the registration process as soon as possible and complete the following:<\/b><\/h3>
  1. Registration Form (Academic Accommodations):<\/b>\u00a0 Complete the Registration Form<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>
  2. Documentation (Academic Accommodations):<\/b>\u00a0 Students will need to provide documentation of the disability if the disability and necessity for the accommodations are not visible. Please follow the Documentation Guidelines (.docx).<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/li>
  3. Intake Meeting:<\/b>\u00a0 After the Student Access Center (SAC) Director reviews the Registration form and documentation, she will contact the student to schedule an intake meeting. The intake meeting will allow the student to present functional limitations, past accommodations, and current needs. The student will also have the opportunity to request reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to University programs and activities.\u00a0 Throughout the registration process, questions are expected and welcome.<\/span><\/li>
  4. Next Steps: <\/b>After the intake meeting, the SAC Director will review existing documentation and new information and will contact the student as soon as possible with a decision. You will be notified of the decision via email (Nicholls Gmail account) with directions for the next steps which include signing the SAC Contract, submitting your class schedule, accessing your shared Google Drive Folder, reviewing your Letter of Accommodations, and viewing the SAC Canvas page to request accommodations.<\/span><\/li><\/ol>

    \u00a0<\/b><\/h3>

    *Requests for accommodations can occur at any time; however, some accommodations may take time to establish (e-text, ASL\/CART services). Providing notice one or two months in advance is ideal.<\/span><\/p>

    Students needing assistance in completing forms should contact the staff at the Student Access Center. All publications and forms are available upon request, in hard copy or alternate formats through the SAC.<\/span><\/p>

    Appeal<\/b><\/h3>

    If a student does not agree with a SAC decision regarding an accommodation, the student may complete the Student Access Center Grievance Procedure Form (.docx)<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>

    Nicholls State University has adopted an internal grievance procedure providing for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 USC 794) or Section 202 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (42 USC 12132). Section 202 states, in part, that “no individual with a disability shall, by reason of such disability, be excluded from participation in or be denied the benefits of the services, programs, or activities of a public entity, or be subjected to discrimination by any such entity.”<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
