Dual Enrollment

The Dual Enrollment program gives high school students a chance to earn college credit while still working towards their high school diploma.  Students in the Dual Enrollment Program often register for courses such as:  SOCI 151, Introductory Sociology; ART 110, Art Appreciation; MUS 105, Music Appreciation.

Admissions Requirements

All students participating in the Dual Enrollment program at Nicholls State University must meet the minimum academic, age, and grade level requirements as outlined below.  Nicholls reserves the right to change or amend the below requirements at any time.

  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Enrolled in 11th or 12th grade.
  • Have ACT (SAT) scores or an alternate measure earned before 10th grade (PLAN, ASPIRE, Pre-ACT, Pre-SAT) on file at Nicholls.
  • Minimum ACT composite score of 19, SAT total score of 980, ASPIRE 430, Pre-ACT 19, Pre-SAT 980.
  • Minimum ACT English sub score of 18 or Accuplacer Sentence Skills score of 86 (Sent Structure), ASPIRE 433, Pre-ACT 18, SAT/Pre-SAT 25WL, EOC English II: 740.
  • Minimum ACT Mathematics sub score of 19 or Accuplacer Elementary-Algebra score of 65 or College Level Math score of 40, ASPIRE 431, Pre-ACT 19, SAT/Pre-SAT 500, EOC Algebra I: 760 or Geometry: 750.
  • For College Algebra eligibility minimum ACT Mathematics sub score of 20 or Accuplacer College Level Math score of 55, ASPIRE 435, Pre-ACT 22, SAT/Pre-SAT 530 , EOC Algebra I 770 or Geometry 760.
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5.

To continue enrollment in subsequent semesters, student must have earned a college grade of A, B, C or S in all attempted college coursework.  Limited, documented exceptions for continuation after withdrawal or final grade of D or F may be granted by Nicholls.

Course Requirements

In order to participate in the Dual Enrollment program, all students must meet the minimum Dual Enrollment admissions requirements AND meet any prerequisites or co-requisites attached to the course chosen.  A full list of Nicholls’ courses, and course descriptions with prerequisites and co-requisites information can be found here.

The application deadline for fall 2018 is Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Please keep in mind these important dates for the fall 2018 semester:

  • Tuesday, August 14- Dual Enrollment Orientation. Students enrolled in dual enrollment will receive an email with more information and location.
  • Friday, August 17, 2018: If student changes their mind about attending in fall 2018, student must “unregister” by 4:15 pm to receive full refund and avoid processing charges. Please contact dual.enrollment@nicholls.edu to unregister.
  • Friday, August 17, 2018: Student must pay tuition and fees by 4:15 pm to avoid late payment charge. **If your fees are covered by your school district or other supplemental entity, please disregard this note**
  • Monday, August 20, 2018: Fall classes begin
  • Friday, September 7, 2018: Full Term Fall 2018 census date. All full term courses dropped before or on this date, by 4:15 pm, will be removed from the student’s academic record.
  • Friday, October 26, 2018: Final date for automatic W when dropping a Full Term course or resigning from the university.
  • Wednesday, December 5, 2018: Last Day of Classes
  • Thursday, December 6- Wednesday, December 12: Final Exams

Spring 2019 application dates: Priority will be given to applications received by Monday, October 29, 2018.  The application deadline for spring 2018 is Friday, January 11, 2018.

Pricing (effective Fall 2013):

Courses on Nicholls campus, taught by Nicholls faculty:  $100 per credit hour, plus any course charge or fee attached to the class(es) selected.*

Nicholls online courses, taught by Nicholls Faculty:  $100 per credit hour, plus any course charge or fee attached to the class(es) selected.*

Courses on the high school campus, taught by high school faculty:  $50 per credit hour, plus any course charge for programs utilized in the off-campus class(es) selected.
