History means a lot to David Miller. Not only is it his career, it’s also something he helped create at Nicholls. As part of the first Colonels football team to play in the Southland Conference, he and his teammates secured the first Southland Conference victory for Nicholls, beating Northeastern (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe) 15-10 in 1991.
Miller is now the project director of the Teaching American History Grant, a $809,000 federal grant to improve the teaching of traditional American history in schools. The program is a partnership between Lafourche Parish Schools, Terrebonne Parish Schools and Nicholls.
“The variety of programs and experiences at Nicholls greatly prepared me for a career in education,” Miller says. “I advise students to take pride in everything they do. Don’t just do something to get it done; do it your best. Learn something from all of your experiences.”
