The Louisiana Folklore Society Events for March 9th to March 10th

Board Meeting

March 9th: 12:00p.m. – 1:30p.m.

 At the Terrebonne Parish Main Branch Library. Box Lunches will be available for $8.

Tour of the Bayou Region

March 9th: 3:00p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A bus will depart from the Courtyard Marriott Hotel (142 Library Dr. Houma, Louisiana). The cost of attendance is $35 for the general public, and $15 for students. The price includes bus fare, and lunch.

Tour includes a guided walk through the Chauvin Sculpture Garden, visits with  2 tradition bearers, land loss site, a 100-year-old grocery store, and the end of the road. The evening ends at Lapeyrouse’s Bar & Seafood in Chauvin, with jambalaya, white beans, and storytelling.


Presentations

March 10th: 8:00a.m. – 12:00p.m.

Presentations on any aspect of Louisiana folklore, folklife, and traditional arts, as well as on folklore theory and practice. The cost of attendance for this is $5 for students and $10 for the general public. Luncheon

March 10th: 12:00p.m. – 1:30p.m.

Chef Paul Williams, a graduate of the John Folse Culinary Institute and owner of GeauxHealthy Meals, is cooking lunch. Diners have a choice between a main dish of homemade meatloaf or a quinoa veggie patty. Both served with sides of mashed potatoes and garlic green beans.
